European stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the Stoxx Europe 600 index rising by 0.84% to reach 447.80.

Gains across major indices

The French CAC 40 index gained 1.13% to reach 7,113.66, while the German DAX added 0.81% to reach 15,352.54. The FTSE 100 index also increased by 0.73% to reach 7,455.67.

Top gainers

Among the constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600, healthcare/life sciences company Orpea S.A. saw the largest increase on Thursday, with its shares skyrocketing by 43.7%. Additionally, shares of investing/securities firm Adyen N.V. and retail company DocMorris N.V. surged by 37.8% and 13.1% respectively.

Nexi S.p.A., an investing/securities company, and technology firm Auto Trader Group PLC also saw significant gains, with their stocks increasing by 9.7% and 8.5% respectively.

Top losers

On the other hand, business services company S4 Capital PLC experienced the largest drop among the Stoxx Europe 600 constituents, with its shares plunging by 13.3% on Thursday. Shares of leisure/arts/hospitality firm Flutter Entertainment PLC and air transport company Wizz Air Holdings PLC also fell significantly, declining by 10.6% and 9.8% respectively.

Healthcare/life sciences companies Idorsia Ltd. and Coloplast A/S Series B rounded out the top five largest decreases as their stocks declined by 8.7% and 6.9% respectively.

Currency and commodity updates

The pound was down 0.07% against the dollar, while the euro held steady. Brent crude added 1.22% to reach $80.51.

Bond yields

The yield on the 10-year gilt rose by 3.18 basis points to reach 4.274%, and the yield on the German 10-year bund rose by 2.850 basis points to reach 2.65%.
