After more than two years, Donald Trump has posted his first message on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. This comes just hours after surrendering at an Atlanta jail on charges of conspiring to overturn his 2020 election loss.

Trump's message, posted alongside a photo of his mug shot, boldly declares "Election interference. Never surrender!" The message also includes a link to his personal website.

This marks Trump's first post since his account was suspended indefinitely on January 8, 2021. Twitter's reason for suspension was due to fears that Trump would incite further violence following the deadly storming of the U.S. Capitol building. Although his account was reinstated last November under Elon Musk's leadership, Trump had chosen to refrain from tweeting, stating that he was content with his own platform, Trump Social, which he created during his ban.

This message signifies Trump's return to the platform that had served as his primary megaphone throughout his political career. With this powerful tool in hand, he dominated his rivals in the 2016 primary and commanded the news cycle for years. Trump's ability to quickly disseminate his messages to cable news stations, often appearing under the banner "BREAKING NEWS," never failed to impress him.

Currently, Trump boasts an impressive 86.5 million followers on X, surpassing all other contenders in the 2024 race.

The Evolution of Truth Social: A New Era Begins

Since the departure of former president Trump, Truth Social has undergone significant transformations, including a name change initiated by Elon Musk. Meanwhile, Trump made a triumphant return to Meta's Facebook in March, announcing his presence with an enthusiastic "I'M BACK!" after his personal account was reactivated.

However, Trump has stuck with his own creation, Truth Social, which bears a striking resemblance to Twitter. It serves as a platform for him to deliver a daily stream of messages, announcements, and reposts. Notably, he has utilized this platform to break news about his legal challenges and impending surrenders, as his list of legal woes continues to mount.

As part of his agreement with Digital World Acquisition Corp., Trump pledged not to compete against his own company once Truth Social went public. This commitment was solidified through an exclusive arrangement detailed in a filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. According to this document, Truth Social would act as the primary channel for all of Trump's social media communications and posts from his personal profile.

The exclusivity clause stipulated that for a period of 18 months starting from December 22, 2021, the former president was obligated to publish any social media content on Truth Social exclusively. He was prohibited from posting the same content on any other social media site within six hours of its publication. This clause ceased to be in effect as of June.

In conclusion, the rejuvenation of Truth Social signifies the dawning of a new era. With Trump once again at the forefront of social media, we can expect this platform to continue to play a significant role in shaping public discourse and providing insight into the former president's thoughts and actions.
