The U.K. stock market had a mixed day of trading on Tuesday, with the FTSE 100 Index closing slightly lower at 7,683.96.
Market Losers
Several FTSE 100 companies experienced drops in their share prices. Persimmon PLC, a residential building construction company, saw the largest decrease, with shares dropping by 4.30%. Clothing retail firm JD Sports Fashion PLC and food retail company Ocado Group PLC also had a rough day, with their shares shedding 4.19% and 3.59% respectively.
RS Group PLC, a wholesalers company, and St. James's Place PLC, an investment advisors firm, rounded out the top five losers as their stocks dropped by 2.49% and 2.25%, respectively.
Market Winners
On the other hand, Severn Trent PLC saw the largest increase among FTSE 100 constituents, with shares rising by 1.99% on Tuesday. Pharmaceuticals firms GSK PLC and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC also performed well, as their shares climbed by 1.76% and 1.75%, respectively.
Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC and SSE PLC were among the top five gainers, with their stock prices increasing by 1.60% and 1.26% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Movement
In currency markets, the pound was down 0.24% against the dollar at $1.2717 and down 0.09% against the euro at €1.1632.
Meanwhile, Brent crude oil climbed by 2.4% to $77.92, and the yield on the 10-year gilt rose by 1.060 basis points to 3.782%.
