The U.K. stock market closed higher on Monday, with the FTSE 100 Index increasing by 0.06%, reaching 7,694.19.

Top Gainers

Among the FTSE 100 constituents, Melrose Industries PLC witnessed the largest increase, with shares climbing by 4.31%. Melrose Industries is a building materials/products company.

Following closely behind, shares of Persimmon PLC, a residential building construction firm, and B&M European Value Retail S.A., a mixed retailing company, rallied by 4.08% and 3.16% respectively.

Rounding out the top five gainers, Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC, an aerospace products/parts company, and Legal & General Group PLC, an investment advisors company, saw their stocks rally by 2.90% and 2.79% respectively.

Top Losers

On the other hand, Shell PLC, a major oil & natural gas companies company, experienced the largest drop among FTSE 100 constituents, with shares declining by 3.11% on Monday.

BP PLC, a major oil & natural gas companies firm, and Anglo American PLC, a general mining company, also faced declines of 2.62% and 1.28% respectively.

Completing the top five losers, Glencore PLC, a general mining company, and RS Group PLC, a wholesalers company, saw their stocks shed 1.27% and 1.23% respectively.

Currency and Commodity Performance

The pound was up 0.35% against the dollar at $1.2762 and slightly increased by 0.03% against the euro at €1.1629.

Brent crude declined by 3.8% to $75.79, while the yield on the 10-year gilt dropped 1.750 basis points to 3.775%.
